Paint may seem smooth to the naked eye, but if you analyze it closely, the surface is actually extremely uneven. Airborne contaminants such as brake dust, rail dust, airplane fallout, pollution, and calcium easily fall into surface imperfections, dulling your shine and bonding to the paint, while sharp fragments can even penetrate the clear coat like a knife!

Step 1: Wash surface with a wax-stripping car wash soap

Mom always said you should never put on a new suit before taking a good shower and getting all cleaned up. Start off by washing the entire vehicle with your favorite Chemical Guys Shampoo, we recommend Cleans Slate.

Step 2: Clay surface to remove embedded contamination

Once the paint is clean you will want to clay the surface to remove any rough and bonded contaminants. Surface contamination that has bonded to paint can reduce the coatings ability to bond perfectly to the surface.

Step 3: Polish surface to remove swirls, scratches, and other imperfections

Once you have clayed the surface, you’ll want to polish out any scratches, swirls, or other imperfections. If not, the scratches and swirls will be locked under the ceramic coating.

Step 4: Remove all lingering product on paintwork.

Once you have finished polishing, use an IPA surface prepping agent or prep-spray to clean the surface we recommend Chemical Guys Wipe-Out is the surface prep spray. You’re all ready to apply HydroCharge!
